Our Work

Vihaan: Care and Support for People Living with HIV/AIDS

Vihaan is a comprehensive project aimed at providing essential care and support services to individuals living with HIV/AIDS (PLHIV), with a particular focus on FSW, MSM, and TG communities. Funded by MSACS and the Global Fund, Vihaan seeks to improve the quality of life for PLHIV by:

  • Increasing access to services: Expanding access to essential services, including HIV testing, counseling, treatment, and prevention

  • Early linkage: Connecting PLHIV to care, support, and treatment services as soon as possible after diagnosis

  • Reducing stigma and discrimination: Promoting awareness and understanding of HIV/AIDS and challenging negative stereotypes

  • Increasing treatment adherence: Supporting PLHIV in adhering to their treatment regimens to achieve optimal health outcomes

Areas of Intervention

Recognizing the pressing challenges faced by our community, we have developed a comprehensive set of need-based interventions to address their diverse needs. By mapping areas with high prevalence of sex work and leveraging the expertise of MSACS-trained outreach workers, we are able to execute targeted interventions that effectively address the specific needs of this vulnerable population.

HIV Prevention and Treatment

  • Testing and screening: Offer accessible and confidential HIV testing and screening services.

  • Medication guidance: Provide information about available medications, their proper usage, and potential side effects.

  • Follow-up: Ensure regular follow-up care for individuals under treatment to monitor their health and progress.

General Health

  • ​Conduct three comprehensive health camps throughout the year, covering a wide range of health screenings and assessments.

  • Provide screenings for TuberculosisCervical CancerHepatitisCOVID-19Anemia and blood sugar levels

  • Refer individuals who require further medical attention to appropriate healthcare providers or facilities.

Access to Social Entitlements

  • Organize outreach camps: Conduct regular outreach camps in targeted areas, bringing together relevant government officials and service providers.

  • One-time access: Provide a one-stop-shop experience where individuals can obtain all necessary documents and complete the application process in a single visit.

  • Document processing: Assist individuals in obtaining Aadhaar cards, ration cards, income certificates, and other required documents.

  • Government scheme awareness: Educate individuals about available government schemes and their eligibility criteria.

HIV Awareness
and Sensitisation

  • Community outreach: Organize street plays (Nukkad Nataks) and participate in community events to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS.

  • Personal counseling: Offer counseling to friends and family of individuals living with HIV/AIDS to address their concerns and provide support.

  • Stigma reduction: Promote understanding and acceptance of individuals living with HIV/AIDS through education and advocacy efforts.

Financial Education

Financial literacy training: Educate sex workers about budgeting, saving, and investing strategies.

Assist in creating bank accounts: Help sex workers open bank accounts, providing guidance on the necessary documentation and procedures.

​Sensitization on saving: Motivate sex workers to make regular deposits into their savings accounts, emphasizing the potential benefits for their daughters.
